Paris Peacock

Description

  • Scientific Name : Princeps paris (Linn.)
  • Family : PAPILIONIDAE
  • Wingspan : 90-140mm
  • Colour : Upper wings are black and with dark green scales, the hind wing has a large metallic blue patch that changes shades. The underside of its wings is dark brown.
  • Habit : Very fast flying, males observed displaying hill-topping behaviour, visits damp patches, frequents forest streams. The butterfly is restless while feeding and keeps flapping its wings.
  • Larval Host Plants : Citrus sp., Evodia roxburghiana, Toddalia asiatica, Zanthoxylum ovalifolium
